These indicators look at the highest level of education completed by a person. Data are available for adults achieving tertiary education and the educational attainment of adults in different age groups. The level to which adults have studied is often used as a measure of human capital and the level of an individual's skills – in other words the skills available in the population and labour force.

Domestic product covers different indicators of national accounts with a focus on Gross Domestic Product (GDP). GDP is the standard measure of the value of final goods and services produced by a country during a period minus the value of imports. While GDP is the single most important indicator to capture these economic activities, it provides only a limited measure of people's material living standards.

The OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) survey takes place every three years, examining the ability of 15 year-olds from around the world to extrapolate from what they have learned and apply that knowledge in unfamiliar settings, both inside and outside school. The PISA survey covers three main subjects: mathematics, reading and science. In each round, one of these subjects is the major domain and the other two are minor domains. The latest set of results from the 2012 data collection (PISA 2012) focuses on mathematics and compares the competencies of students in 65 countries and economies. Around 510 000 students between the ages of 15 years 3 months and 16 years 2 months participated in PISA 2012, representing about 28 million 15-year-olds globally. Interpretation of the results: The country results are estimates because they are obtained from samples of students, rather than from a census of all students, and they are obtained using a limited set of assessment tasks, not a population of all possible assessment tasks. The standard errors (S.E.) used for the interpretation of these differences are available from PISA 2012 results.

Research and experimental development (R&D) comprises creative work undertaken on a systematic basis in order to increase the stock of human knowledge and to devise new applications based upon it. The term R&D covers three activities: basic research, applied research and experimental development. Basic research is experimental or theoretical work undertaken primarily to acquire new knowledge of the underlying foundation of phenomena and observable facts, without any particular application or use in view. Applied research is also original investigation undertaken in order to acquire new knowledge. It is, however, directed primarily towards a specific practical aim or objective. Experimental development is systematic work, drawing on existing knowledge gained from research and/or practical experience, which is directed to producing new materials, products or devices, to installing new processes, systems and services, or to improving substantially those already produced or installed.

Foreign direct investment (FDI) is a category of cross-border investment in which an investor resident in one economy establishes a lasting interest in and a significant degree of influence over an enterprise resident in another economy. Ownership of 10 percent or more of the voting power in an enterprise in one economy by an investor in another economy is evidence of such a relationship. FDI is a key element in international economic integration because it creates stable and long-lasting links between economies. FDI is an important channel for the transfer of technology between countries, promotes international trade through access to foreign markets, and can be an important vehicle for economic development. The indicators covered in this group are inward and outward values for stocks, flows and income, by partner country and by industry and FDI restrictiveness.

Revenue Statistics in Asia and the Pacific is an annual publication presenting comparable tax revenue for economies in Asia and the Pacific and non-tax revenue for selected economies in a common format from 1990 onwards. The model is the OECD Revenue Statistics database which is a fundamental reference for OECD member countries. Extending the OECD methodology to Asian and Pacific economies enables comparisons of tax levels and tax structures, both across Asian and Pacific economies and with OECD, Latin American, Caribbean and African economies. Each edition represents a “snapshot” of the data at the time of publication; any further country amendments to the data will be shown in the relevant online publication dataset and metadata. The report is jointly undertaken by the OECD Centre for Tax Policy and Administration and the OECD Development Centre, with the co-operation of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Pacific Island Tax Administrators Association (PITAA) and the Pacific Community (SPC).

The OECD Compendium of Productivity indicators presents a comprehensive overview of recent and longer term trends in productivity levels and growth across OECD countries. Starting with 2021, it is released as a Webbook, with interactive charts facilitating international comparisons, visualisations and the download of all productivity statistics commonly used for economic policy and analysis.

The international development statistics provide comprehensive data on the volume, origin and types of foreign aid and other resource flows from donor countries to recipient countries. It also provides comparative data on gender equality.
