This Interim Report updates projections made in the December 2009 issue of OECD Economic Outlook (Number 86). It finds that the pickup in activity seen in the G7 countries in the last quarter of 2009 is expected to ease back in the first half of this year and that Gross domestic product (GDP) is likely to grow faster in the US than in Japan and the three largest euro area countries – Germany, France and Italy - but will remain generally fragile as inventory destocking by businesses and the ending of some fiscal stimulus measures weighs on activity.
OECD's periodic survey of Finland's economy. This 2010 edition includes chapters on overcoming the crisis, sustainable public finances, coping with the jobs crisis and preparing for ageing, and rising inequalities. It finds that the crisis hit Finland harder than most other OECD countries, worsening the fiscal outlook. This calls for a stronger fiscal framework. Employment has held up relatively well, but rigidities in the labour market could complicate recovery. Increasing inequalities challenge Finland's social model and may be aggravated by the crisis.
OECD's periodic survey of the Czech economy. This 2010 edition includes chapters covering the challenge of fiscal consolidation after the crisis, pro-growth tax and benefit reform, and improving the business environment. The survey finds that the Czech economy was severely affected by the global downturn, owing to its high degree of openness and integration in global production chains. The fiscal position was also hit hard, prompting a rapid shift in policy from stimulus to consolidation. The medium-term challenges facing the country are principally concerned with creating conditions of rapid convergence with advanced OECD economies by restoring the sustainability of public finances and improving the business environment.
A joint production by six international organizations, this manual explores the conceptual and theoretical issues that national statistical offices should consider in the daily compilation of export and import price indices. Intended for use by both developed and developing countries, it replaces guidance from the United Nations that is now more than a quarter-century old and thus badly outdated. The chapters cover many topics; they elaborate on the different practices currently in use, propose alternatives whenever possible, and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative. Given its comprehensive nature, the manual is expected to satisfy the needs of many users in addition to national statistical offices and international organizations, particularly businesses, policymakers, and researchers.

The world is currently facing the aftermath of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. Going for Growth 2010 examines the structural policy measures that have been taken in response to the crisis, evaluates their possible impact on long-term economic growth, and identifies the most imperative reforms needed to strengthen recovery. In addition, it provides a global assessment of policy reforms implemented in OECD member countries over the past five years to boost employment and labour productivity. Reform areas include education systems, product market regulation, agricultural policies, tax and benefit systems, health care and labour market policies. The internationally comparable indicators provided enable countries to assess their economic performance and structural policies in a wide range of areas.
In addition, this issue contains three analytical chapters covering intergenerational social mobility, prudential regulation and competition in banking, and key policy challenges in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and South Africa.
