World Meteorological Organization (WMO)

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) was founded in 1950 to facilitate worldwide cooperation in the establishment and maintenance of systems for making, exchanging and standardizing meteorological information, and to further application of meteorology to aviation, shipping, water problems, agriculture and other human activities. Since its founding, the organization has also developed an important role in addressing the world’s environmental concerns. In 1995, WMO continued activities in support of sustainable development in areas such as climate change, natural disaster mitigation, water resources management and environmental monitoring.
