Parental leave

This indicator shows the proportion of benefit days at pregnancy, childbirth and adoption which were taken by men in the Nordic region. In all the Nordic countries, compensation is granted to cover any loss of income in connection with childbirth during the last few weeks prior to and at least the first months after childbirth. In all the countries, the benefit amount depends on any previous income but also on the length of the leave period. In all the countries, employees may receive their pay in full according to collective agreements. Denmark: New method from 2002. Iceland: Until 2000: Entitlement to daily cash benefit during maternity leave will lapse if a mother is entitled to full pay from her employer. For more information:
