Investment conditions that can affect trade are known as trade-related investment measures (TRIMs). Although WTO does not directly regulate the flow of capital, its Agreement on TRIMs requires countries to phase out TRIMs that have been identified as being inconsistent with WTO rules on national treatment and the rules against the use of quantitative restrictions.
