Executive summary

Colombia is considered the second-most bio-diverse country and one of the richest countries in terms of water availability in Latin America. Forests cover more than half the territory. The CO2 emission intensity of the economy is low due to heavy reliance on hydropower. However, the greenhouse gas emission intensity is high due to the high level of emissions from agriculture. Colombia has made important progress in improving access to water services. However, air pollution and the use of mercury and other hazardous chemicals have significant impacts on human health and the economy.
