Ambassador László Havas took up his duties as Permanent Representative of Hungary to the OECD on 30 April 2024.
Ambassador Havas began his career in the early 1990s, holding key positions in Hungarian banking institutions, including MHB-Daewoo Bank, HYPO-Bank Hungária, and KDB Bank Hungary. From 2001 to 2012, he served as Local Fixed-Income Manager at Credit Agricole CIB’s Hungarian Branch, where he supervised sales and trading desks and participated in strategic financial management.
He later became Chief Investment Officer at ING Pension Fund (2012-2014) and Hungarian Post Investment Ltd. (2012-2013), where he developed investment policies and ensured compliance.
Transitioning to international finance, Ambassador Havas chaired the Supervisory Board at Hungarian Export-Import Bank (2015-2016) and served on the Board of Directors at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), representing multiple countries (2016-July 2019).
In August 2019, he was appointed Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of Hungary in Beijing, overseeing financial affairs and representing Hungary in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Multilateral Cooperation Centre for Development Finance (MCDF), multilateral financial mechanism designed to promote high-quality infrastructure and connectivity investments in developing countries. On 30th April 2024, he took up his current position at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for Hungary's Permanent Delegation to the OECD and UNESCO in Paris.
Ambassador Havas holds a degree in economics from the University of Economics in Budapest and has got an EFFAS diploma at the International Training Centre for Bankers (Budapest). He speaks fluent English, basic German, and native Hungarian.
