The preparation of national accounts statistics in South Africa is undertaken by the National Accounts Division at Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) and the South African Reserve Bank (the Bank), both located in Pretoria. Stats SA and the Bank share responsibility for the compilation of national accounts. Stats SA is responsible for compiling Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from both sides of the national accounts, while the Bank is responsible for compiling comprehensive set of production, distribution and accumulation accounts in an integrated manner for the institutional sectors and balance of payments.
