The need for a co-ordinated metropolitan spatial development strategy

This chapter examines the options available to Prague to engage nearby municipalities in co-ordinated spatial development. Because Prague cannot compel these local authorities to collaborate, and it is unlikely that the national government will provide this supervisory authority, Prague must find a way to negotiate agreements with multiple autonomous small counterparts. Prague’s situation is not atypical amongst OECD countries and the experience of other cities in finding “win-win” solutions to this challenge suggests ways for Prague to proceed.
