This review seeks to understand how to better support the competitiveness of Mexico through improved regional innovation systems and clusters that promote innovation in firms. Innovation is an important component of economic development and productivity growth, and hence the competitiveness of regions and nations. Firms are at the centre of this process, but they do not operate in isolation. They may benefit from linkages with other actors in a cluster and regional innovation system, where knowledge is created and/or diffused.
