The Thrust Towards Linking Education in Commonwealth Countries

Work experience programmes are an outgrowth both of a thrust towards making schools' curricula more relevant to the needs, interests and aspirations of young people and of attempts to make schools' curricula respond more directly to the needs of national economies by giving young people skills which are readily usable in the labour market. It is not surprising that the era in which these programmes have blossomed, particularly in developing countries, is one in which these countries' economies have been on the decline.
