Values education

Values and their transmission through education could certainly be classified as an issue, and one which is worldwide. Most societies see the need to have a value system in order to give meaning to peoples' lives, and to ensure some measure of stability and predictability in their relationship with other persons and the environment. A problem, however, is that values and their transmission have often been used by those in authority such as governments, heads of industry and commerce, or religious leaders as a means of controlling the lives of others.
