  • Life expectancy at birth

    Life expectancy at birth is defined as how long, on average, a newborn can expect to live, if current death rates do not change.

  • Life expectancy at 65

    Life expectancy at age 65 years old is the average number of years that a person at that age can be expected to live, assuming that age-specific mortality levels remain constant.

  • Infant mortality rates

    The infant mortality rate is defined as the number of deaths of children under one year of age, expressed per 1 000 live births.

  • Potential years of life lost

    Potential Years of Life Lost (PYLL) is a summary measure of premature mortality which provides an explicit way of weighting deaths occurring at younger ages, which may be preventable.

  • Deaths from cancer

    Cancer occurs when abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues. Mortality rates are based on numbers of deaths registered in a country in a year divided by the size of the corresponding population.

  • Suicide rates

    Suicide rates are defined as the number of deaths deliberately initiated and performed by a person in the full knowledge or expectation of its fatal outcome.
