OECD Journal on Budgeting
The OECD Journal on Budgeting is published three times per year. It draws on the best of the recent work of the OECD Committee of Senior Budget Officials (SBO), as well as special contributions from finance ministries, academics and experts in the field and makes it available to a wider community in an accessible format. The journal provides insight on leading-edge institutional arrangements, systems and instruments for the allocation and management of resources in the public sector.

Ageing and the Public Sector
Challenges for Financial and Human Resources
An ageing public service increases fiscal burdens while decreasing immediate capacities to deliver services. In the long run, however, it also offers an opportunity to downsize the public sector workforce if necessary and to change employment conditions and the management of government employees where this is deemed reasonable. This article reviews the experience of nine OECD countries in this field and presents some possible strategies for facing the wider ageing challenge.
