The measuring globalisation statistics provide comprehensive data on the industrial activity (manufacturing, service) of multinationals in OECD. It covers variables such as production, employment, research and trade, inward as well as outward investment. It also includes some international trade indicators that provide cross-disciplinary background information.

    Expand / Collapse Activity of Multinationals in Manufacturing

    The measuring globalisation statistics provide comprehensive data on the industrial activity (manufacturing, service) of multinationals in OECD. It covers variables such as production, employment, research and trade, inward as well as outward investment. It also include some international trade indicators that provide cross-disciplinary background information.

      This subset of the activity of Multinationals in Manufacturing dataset focuses on the inward activity by industrial sector. Varaiables such as value added, turnover, intra-firm exports, stock of FDI, gross operating surplus and such are compared by industrial sector (chemical products, food, textiles). This table contains figures on the activity of affiliates under foreign control and all firms by industry according to the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC Revision 4). Data are presented from 2008 onwards.

      This dataset provides statistics on outward activity of multinationals by industrial sector with figures on the activity affiliates located abroad (total exports, value added, turnover, gross operating surplus)by industry according to the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC Revision 4). Data are presented from 2007 onwards.

      This dataset comprises statistics on inward activity of multinationals in manufacturing with a focus on share in national total containing figures on the shares of industrial sectors that are ‘controlled’ by affiliates under foreign control in each country(inward investment as a percentage of national total). It uses the ISIC Rev.3 Classification (International Standard Industrial Classification) to compare variables such as value added, turnover, total imports, gross operating surplus. Data are presented as annual datapoints from 1985 onwards.

      This dataset provides statistics on inward activities of multinationals in services (real estate, insurance, education, monetary intermediation) by looking at flows from partner countries. It presents a series of variables for some OECD countries a selection of variables such as the number of enterprises and establishments, the number of employees, the turnover, the value added or the total exports and imports. Data are available from 1995 onwards.

      This dataset comprises statistics on outward activities of multinationals in services (agriculture, construction, education,insurance) by looking at flows with partner countries. Data are available from 1995 onwards.

    Maritime transport costs

    This comparative table includes statistics on bilateral maritime transport costs for 43 importing countries including EU15 countries as a custom union and 218 countries of origin at the detailed commodity 6 digit level of the Harmonised System 1988. The table is further broken down by type of goods (agriculture,raw materials,crude oil,manufacturing), commodity (oil seed, vegetable, organic chemicals), transport cost measures (ad valorem transport, unit transport cost) and transport mode (containers, dirty bulk). Data are available from 1991 onwards.

    Bilateral trade in intermediate goods and services

    This dataset contains data of bilateral flows of intermediate inputs import values estimates based on a combination of trade statistics with input-output(I/O) for 40 importing countries and for about 240 supplier countries or regions broken down into 29 economic sectors following the underlying International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC rev.3). Imports of intermediate inputs are presented by country of use, country of supply, sector of use and sector of supply. Data are presented on 5 year interval datapoints and are available starting from 1995.

    The Trade by Enterprise Characteristics (TEC) database contains international annual trade data broken down in different categories of enterprises. Its aim is to provide a solid basis for analysts who explore, in the context of globalisation, the characteristics of trade actors.

      This dataset includes import and export values by number of enterprise and value of trade by partner and partner zone according to the economic sector in International Standard Industrial Classification(ISIC). The sectors ISIC (industry sectors, trade and repair, other personnal and government services) are presented by partner zones, indicator, flow and country. Data are presented from 2003 onwards and are available on annual datapoints.

HS presents a selection of indicators such as the world market share, the trade balance of goods, the export performance, the revealed comparative advantage and such by category of goods. The types of services are presented according to the services classification of the 1993 Fifth edition of the Balance of Payments Manual of the International Monetary Fund (BPM5) and its detailed extension, the Extended Balance of Payments Services (EBOPS) Classification. Type of services range from travel, financial to insurance services and are compared with indicators such as comparative advantage, market share, export performance and Herfindalh index.     Macro trade indicators

    This dataset has been discontinued. This dataset comprises statistics on macro trade indicators while presenting a selection of indicators (trade-to-GDP ratio, trade balance in goods and services as a percentage of GDP, trade per capita, normalised trade balance, import penetration rates ) on an aggregate level expressed in both constant and current prices. Data is available from 1955 onwards.
