In general, the Nordic countries have the same view on both teaching and education. Equal access to – life long – learning, training in the principles of democracy, independence and critical awareness are some of the central issues. More or less, the Nordic countries also share the same view regarding the major role the state plays when it comes to education. Comprehensive schools are compulsory in all Nordic countries and local authorities finance them with general grants from the state. After 9-10 years of compulsory schooling practically all students continue to study. For more information:
