The volume 17 compiles the disarmament resolutions and decisions of the forty-seven session of the General Assembly, the voting patterns in the General Assembly and the First Committee report and dates of their adoption. It summarizes developments and trends in 1992 on key issues of multilateral consideration at the international and regional levels. Reviews the activity of the forty-seventh session of the General Assembly, the Conference on Disarmament and the Disarmament Commission. Contains a timeline that highlights events in multilateral disarmament in 1992.

Recalling that, as indicated in the preamble to the Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America, opened for signature in Mexico City on 14 February 1967, which entered into force on 25 April 1969, militarily denuclearized zones are not an end in themselves but rather a means for promoting the achievement of general and complete disarmament under effective international control, in accordance with established principles in the field in question, by the relevant organs of the United Nations,
