Cessation of Nuclear-Weapon tests

The question of the complete prohibition of all nuclear-weapon tests has been actively discussed in the United Nations since the mid-1950s, probably at greater length and in more detail than any other disarmament matter. Prior to the conclusion of the 1963 Treaty Banning Nuclear Weapon Tests in the Atmosphere, in Outer Space and under Water, known as the partial test-ban Treaty, the subject was generally referred to as the discontinuance, or suspension, of nuclearweapon tests.
